My friend, Mr. Bill Wetzel, died last Wednesday. He was the only real cowboy I ever knew. I only know a handful of his lifetime full of stories. I wish I knew more of them.
He read at Mass on Fridays. Many times the psalm on Fridays is Psalm 51. I always hear his voice when I hear it..."Create in me a clean heart, O God,....a broken and contrite heart, you will not spurn."
I remember Mr. Wetzel leading the prayer for family get-togethers (which we were graciously invited to:), especially the prayer at midnight on New Year's Day.
And him singing a song at his 80th brithday party. Rachel, what was that? Some Elvis something? I can't remember the words. Only him singing and that it was hilarious.
I can just see him sitting out in front of the church watching the Fourth of July parade with his family.
He always, always had a friendly loving hug. I can remember the last time I got one of those.
I should add that Scott talks about how he can still taste Mr. Wetzel's smoked turkey:) It was his favorite.
I love you, Mr. Wetzel. The whole Davis family loves you. We will miss you...until we see you again.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
